Hollywood Was Behind KickassTorrents Shutdown

Hollywood Was Behind KickassTorrents Shutdown

A few months ago, one of the largest file-sharing websites ever was shut down due to a criminal investigation into its operator. It is known that KickassTorrents’ case is processed by the US Department of Justice based on an FBI investigation, but the MPAA recently made clear that Hollywood was involved as well.

The largest torrent site at the time, KickassTorrents was closed down following the FBI investigation that pointed out the Ukrainian national Artyom Vaulin as the alleged site operator. The latter was immediately arrested in Poland and stays in the local prison.

Now the MPAA admitted that it also played a key role in the case, actively helping the US authorities to shut down the site. It is also known that the major movie studios have previously helped in similar criminal cases, but the MPAA does not reveal many details about its role in federal investigations.

Undoubtedly, the KickassTorrents seizure was a major success for the movie industry, but piracy remains a problem: according to the MPAA, it enjoys successes every day, but they now require more sophisticated methods. On the other hand, the pirates are getting smarter at the same time as well: for example, the operators of websites and services have found better ways to protect themselves from law enforcement over many years, at the same time making it easier for their users to obtain content. The MPAA has a positive outlook, but still recognizes the challenges. Its head recently said that they felt more optimistic despite the fact that the pirates were getting more and more sophisticated. Apparently, technology was playing important role for both sides: not only was it increasing Hollywood’s opportunity for more people to consume content, but also enabling them to steal our it.

Admiral_Smith avatarI guess that KAT may have had some secret seedbox in the Ukrane or something. Why? Maybe they put them down because they requested and asked for the content to be removed from the secret seedbox they have.

No avatarPiracy is actually a good thing in a way. Only when someone is doing something wrong does it really help expose the tyrannical surveillance state we live in.

n2kmaster avatar@6 I know your pain. I was a mininova uploader, then they went legit and killed their own site. BT Junkie as well when they just straight up gave up. Kickass, honestly, don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out....I have no love loss for Kickass. Perhaps if I wasn't banned without reason, explanation or even proof of their claims, then i would care what happened to them. But being blamed for uploading something you didnt then seeing the EXACT same upload on their top 10, yeah it was a little more than just a "dirty torrent" at play there. Same goes for Pirate Bay. Them two brought it all on themselves and have no one else to blame but themselves in my opinion. I'd start uploading again had it not been for the thankless existence them two sites provided. But them two particular sites have left such a horrible taste in my mouth about torrents, that now I'm simply a leech and ill admit it. The zero thank yous despite being the first with many things kinda killed it for me. And them two sites were the reason.

Manofstone avatarHi again,
Oh dear @freezeeco why stop there I will stick my dick in all the entertainment goliaths ears for as long as I can they are cynical ,hippocritical bigoted philandering despots that never offer any value to anyone for any reason so EFFEMALL. Compared to the rest of the worlds problems which I believe significantly out way their issues and losses financially can they actually explain in detail how many illegal downloads occur for one item against actuall legal purchases for the same item Ive yet to see the actual evidence they support these allegations with unless Ive completely missed something somwhere. Happy Xmas to all of you ET users and to all the Magicians @ ET Go Hard and go Big

pearlheartgtr avatar@7 Yup. I used to be a huge audio and ebook uploader on Demonoid. 95% of the time, I was the first to upload the content on the web. I had an Audible account where I'd rip the drm from the files and upload books within an hour of their release. I'd even borrow the cd's from the ilbrary to upload. Then people started getting demanding. One guy demanded I get the cd of a book to upload because the audible version didn't sound like the same narrator as the other books with his "expensive headphones and sound system." It was the exact same quality of the original file. He threw a hissy fit when I told him to go and buy the cd's himself if he doesn't like it. As for Kickass, I uploaded a few times there only to have my uploads flagged and deleted. Then, my files would show up in another torrent a little while later. I knew they were mine because I added my name to the meta data. So, now, I'm a leecher. I did my part years ago and it wasn't appreciated.

ExYuSubs avatarKAT was just a one man's home page, for none of the admins or staff members have access to the backup data.

Since KAT cases lots of copies of this page is turned up, all of the staff members opened their own page in its own interest, just to feel money ....

Artyom is arrested in an EU country suffering Uncle Sam's rules .... so do not be surprised if one day everything goes black

TPB is still a page you can trust and find what you need ....

Asskicker69 avatarI was an uploader on kat too but i dont have the god complex 7 & 9 seem to have, my torrents got deleted too but i never cared. Its not about that for me, its about enabling people in less fortunate areas of the world to have access to content that our country provides, the stuff they want to watch but cant. i guess i have more of a robin hood complex lol!! Im sure 7 & 9 had that view in the earlier stages of their uploading but somewhere along the way they seem to have lost it or forgotten why torrenting/sharing first started back in the early years... sad really because in my opinion, uploaders are just the portal to hidden content and thats it, but know its all about the numbers and who gets shit out first..... now i see too much of the "hey im an uploader so dont delete my stuff" kind of bullshit... sad really....

XpoZ avatarMovie industry were tired to send DMCA notice to KAT. So it's for sure that they are main reason for that.
